I don’t know that I have talked about it on here yet but we are currently under contract and a week & a half out from closing on the sale of our house. I wish I could tell you that it is an easy, stress free process but that has not been our experience.
Let me give y’all some back story. In September, we were given the opportunity to buy my husband’s grandparents house and it was something that we were anxious about at first but after some talking about it and going over numbers we decided to go for it. We set up a meeting with the realtor (who has been amazing throughout the whole process) and went over some things that we could do to maximize our chance of selling and getting more money. All of what we went over was already on our to do list anyway so it wasn’t a huge shock, at all. Our house was listed under the ‘Coming Soon’ status and we had 3 weeks to get the work done and he would come back out and take pictures and list it as active.
The next three weeks were stressful but we got it all done and he came back out, took some pictures, and then it was a waiting game. We immediately started getting showings and it seemed like this would be a quick and short lived listing. Every person who looked at our house came up with dumb excuses as to why they couldn’t/wouldn’t buy it. Okay, whatever. After about 3 weeks I started losing hope. I just knew that it wasn’t going to work out and I essentially gave up all together.
About a month, to the date, after we listed it for sale we got an offer and accepted it. I couldn’t believe it. I was so excited to get going with this closing process and all that came with it. Little did I know that this is when the real stress started. I started obsessing over home inspections and reading way too far into every little thing that could go wrong.
I was so anxious about all of it because we have an older house and there are so many things that could go wrong, and if our luck had anything to do with it.. they would go wrong. We got the report back from the home inspection and the list of things the buyer would like to have done. We counter-offered with what we would be willing to do and she accepted. So we moved forward. Then we kept hitting walls. The couple of things we agreed to fix would be way more expensive than we imagined and I kept thinking that maybe it just wasn’t worth putting more money into this house if we wanted to sell.
Thankfully the buyer has been very easy to work with and things have continued to move forward. We are now a week and a half out from closing and we just have a couple more hurdles to jump over. Again, the anxious feeling is setting in and I can feel it starting to overwhelm me but I am trying to push back and keep it at bay.
I am so excited to be moving and having better opportunities for my entire family. I’m glad that we can help keep this house in the family and raise our kids there as well. We are about 85% packed – all we have left is our necessities. I believe we are going to start moving our stuff over to the new house this coming weekend and I couldn’t be more excited. Fresh start and new memories.
There’s two things that I am the most excited about – a bigger kitchen and having a separate schoolroom/play room! I hate the layout of our current kitchen so I am STOKED for a normal kitchen layout. In our current house we had toys in the living room and in their bedrooms and I cannot wait to have one room that toys stay in. A room that won’t need to be picked up 25/8 because it’s a main living area.
I can’t wait to share how we set up the new house and all of that! I have already mapped out a couple of rooms on how I want to set them up and I think it’s going to look really good! I also already have some projects lined up that I want to do. That’ll be another post for another day, though!
If you’ve gotten this far you’re amazing! Thank you for reading my scattered thoughts. I appreciate each and every one of y’all who read and share my posts.
Xoxo
