Blogtober – Day 2

Day number two..

Topic: What was your dream job when you were a kid?

The first dream job I can remember is a teacher.. back in elementary school. As I grew older I realized that I didn’t have what it took to be a teacher – patience for other people’s kids.

Over the course of my middle and high school years I changed my mind many times about what I would go to college for and eventually do in my professional career. When I graduated high school I immediately started college and was majoring in Accounting. This didn’t last long. The work was easy but was way too tedious for my liking so I switched my major to Early Childhood Development. Again, this didn’t last long. It just wasn’t for me. Working with kids, on that level, just was not what I was meant to do. During this time I found out I was pregnant and I thought I would stick it out because I could learn a lot about children and have fun with it. I ended up failing out of my classes due to being on bedrest and my professors not working with me on getting my work or me missing classes.

I took a while off school and when I went back I decided to go for just a certificate that would allow me to advance at my current (at the time) job. I finished that in August of 2014, had our second daughter in September 2014, and then left my job to become a SAHM in May 2015.

In August of 2015 I decided to go after a degree I kept going back to but never took the jump because of having kids, a full time job, and not knowing if I could handle it all. I began this journey knowing that I wanted to work with people who had been victim to domestic violence, more in particular children. During this time I had to do an internship and the company that dealt with domestic violence did not get back to me in time so I had to choose something else so that I could get my credits and graduate. I ended up doing my internship with a hospice agency and while meeting with one of the families got the message that I was meant to work in that field.

So, long story short.. I went from wanting to work with children to knowing that I belong in the hospice field. I just graduated in May 2018 (finished my classes in August 2017 but couldn’t walk until May) with my Associates of Applied Science in Human Services and I am now working towards my Bachelors degree in Human Services. I will be graduating in May 2019 and we will see where I go from there.

Until next time..

xoxo

Great topic for a post! I used to want to be a Paramedic but now I’m not so good with blood and gore. Good luck with graduating!

Thank you! I’m the same way! I’d never be able to be in that part of the medical field! 😅

Such a rewarding job however, but it’s a shame.
